After the yellow jersey from the Tour de France and the rainbow jersey of the World Championship, Sagan has also won the blue jersey for the European Championship.

For the first time since 1995, cyclists racing for elite teams were allowed to compete at the European Championship on September 18, in the French Plumelec. Thus, Sagan became the first professional to enjoy a victory at this event. He had a very calm expression in the morning before the race, despite the pressure of being the favourite to win. After a very well-timed sprint, he rejoiced about the victory.

However, he had no time to really celebrate it, as he continued by plane to another race, the Eneco Tour in the Netherlands. “There will be no time to celebrate,” he told Sme. “I want to make some points for the world chart.” In about one month, he will defend his world title in Qatar.

In total, Slovakia had 22 racers in Plumelec. After Sagan, Matúš Štoček, competing in the junior category, had the best placing, being fourteenth in the road race.
