After many years Bratislava will be home to an official pet cemetery. It will be located in the forest on a private plot in the Bratislava’s borough Dúbravka, below the Devínska Kobyla hill. The cemetery, named Borievka, will have around 6,000 grave sites and its opening is planned for spring.
“We decided to launch the pet cemetery because such a service has not been available in Bratislava and its vicinity,” Stanislav Vlkovič from the Icona company and the initiator of the idea told The Slovak Spectator. “We believe that pets should also have a proper resting place.”
The locality below Devínska Koliba near the former hotel Alfonz is, according to him, a suitable place for the pet cemetery.
Vlkovič and others behind the idea are cooperating with Dúbravka as well as the Bratislava city council on the launch of the cemetery. Creation of a pet cemetery was also one of the election promises of the current Bratislava Mayor Ivo Nesrovnal.
“The capital welcomes efforts by the private partner to build a pet cemetery in Dúbravka,” Ivana Skokanová, spokeswoman of the Bratislava city council told The Slovak Spectator. “Bratislava lacks such a cemetery.”
