Slovakia wins its first World Cup match

The Slovak national hockey team won two points in their first match at the IIHF World Championships 2017 against Italy.

The Slovak national hockey team won the game in the IIHF World Championships 2017 against Italy 3:2 in overtime.

Slovak goals were scored by Michel Miklík, Libor Hudáček and Peter Čerešňák. Giovanni Morini and Luca Frigo scored for Italy.

Slovakia now has 2 points in the preliminary round.

The Slovaks are playing in group A of the preliminary round, with the matches being held in Cologne, Germany. They will face teams from Italy, Latvia, Denmark, Germany, Russia, the USA and Sweden.

Based on current IIHF World Rankings Slovakia is currently in 7th position while Italy ranks 18th.
