Adient, the spin-off of Johnson Controls’ former automotive seating and interiors business, is expanding in Slovakia. Earlier in May it opened a new prototype unit at its technology centre in Trenčín. It also has plans this year to increase the number of its employees in Trenčín from the current 400 to 500 people to meet a significant growth in the automotive business in central Europe. In Trenčín, Adient operates the biggest automotive technology centre in Slovakia.

“The technology centre plays a crucial role in Adient’s global product development network due to its outstanding capabilities related to product design, simulation, prototyping and testing as well as several Global Competence Centers, which are also located in Trenčín,” said Frank Toenniges, executive director of the technology centre. “With that, the bulk of the engineering power of Adient is sitting in Trenčín.”

Part of Adient’s development work in Trenčín also includes a wide range of benchmarking, prototyping and testing activities.

With more than 4,000 employees and eight locations in Slovakia, Adient is one of the key employers in the local automotive industry. Apart from the Trenčín Technology Center, Adient operates its only worldwide business centre from Bratislava. Approximately 900 employees in Bratislava support the company’s business around the globe in finance, information technology, purchasing, sales, human resources, transport and logistics and programme management.

Adient operates in six manufacturing plants in Slovakia. The Žilina plants produce complete seat systems and automotive fabrics, the Lozorno unit manufactures complete seat systems, the Martin unit is dedicated to seat cover production and two sites in Lučenec produce foam components for seats and metal components for head restraints.
