The police have charged one person, identified as M.J.H., and one legal entity, a Bratislava-based company, in the case of the Bratislava ring road construction. There is a suspicion that contaminated soil was used at the construction site.
They are charged with threatening and harming the environment, the TASR newswire reported.
“If they are found guilty, they could spend between four to 10 years in prison,” the police wrote on their Facebook profile.
The police did not provide any further details since the investigation is still underway.

“The police officers of the Regional Police Headquarters’ criminal department carried out 11 house searches and searches of other premises and land linked with the environmental crimes,” the police specified, as quoted by TASR.
Spanish manager charged
The police have allegedly detained four people, including drivers active in waste management. They also went to the house of Javier H., who represents the Spanish consortium responsible for building the ring road, and took him in for questioning.
The Bratislava ring road is being constructed by a consortium of companies under the leadership of the Spanish company Cintra. The road is being built as a public-private partnership project. The concessionaire is expected to build the road and operate it for 30 years. At the same time, the state will pay installments amounting to €52.8 million a year, to the company, over the 30 years, TASR wrote.
