Slovakia to host hockey Worlds

SLOVAKIA will hold the 75th ice hockey World Championships in 2011, following its selection for the tournament in the Latvian capital city of Riga on May 19.

The annual congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) chose the Bratislava-Košice project by 70 votes out of 104 ahead of bids by Sweden and Finland, the TASR news agency wrote.

In order to stage the event, Slovakia will build a modern ice-hockey hall in Bratislava for an estimated Sk3.5 billion (€93.3 million).
