New parliament to convene in mid-July

PRESIDENT Ivan Gašparovič will probably convene the initial session of the new Slovak parliament for July 12.

According to the Slovak constitution, the president must convene the session within 30 days of the elections.

The president also believes that by mid-July he will receive a proposal for the composition of a new coalition government.

On June 20 he officially asked Smer Chairman Robert Fico to lead talks on the creation of the new government, the Hospodárske noviny daily wrote.

At the first session, the Mikuláš Dzurinda government will officially resign from their posts. If a new government has not yet been formed, the outgoing ministers will stay in power until it is, according to the Slovak constitution.
