NEWS BRIEFS

New cabinet to fire hundreds of officials

FOLLOWING the June 17 general elections, personnel changes seem likely in top state posts.

Although the ruling coalition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) says it is not looking to replace officials, its coalition partner Smer has said this will probably happen, the Pravda daily wrote.

Coalition partners Smer, the Slovak National Party and the HZDS divided ministerial posts in a ratio of 11:3:2, and a similar arrangement is expected at the regional and district levels.
