Group of 22 Slovaks returns from Lebanon

A group of 22 Slovak citizens who asked the Slovak Embassy in the Syrian capital of Damascus to evacuate them from Lebanon - currently under attack by Israeli armed forces - have already returned to Slovakia.

The group was flown from Syria to Prague by a Czech plane that landed at around 1:00 on July 18. The Slovak embassy in Prague then arranged immediate transport to Bratislava. The group arrived in the Slovak capital at 6:00, the news wire TASR reported.

With the situation deteriorating in Lebanon, other Slovaks who had originally decided to stay in the country have already contacted the Slovak Embassy and asked to be evacuated. This evacuation will take place in line with an agreement between EU-member states, the Slovak Foreign Affairs Ministry reported on July 18.

The ministry strongly advises Slovak citizens to seriously reconsider planned journeys to Lebanon, the north of Israel, the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and neighbouring territories due to the current security risk.
