Slovak diplomacy is pushing for a comprehensive approach to the current conflict between Israel and Lebanon, Foreign Affairs Minister Ján Kubiš said.
Kubiš supports moves that would lead to a permanent political solution and the establishment of lasting security in the region, news wire TASR wrote.
According to Kubiš, one part of this solution would be the disarming of the Hezbollah militia and the establishment of Lebanese government sovereignty over all Lebanese territory.
Any stabilizing operation in which we would want to participate should contribute to creating conditions for such a permanent solution, said the minister.
Slovakia could take part in an international peacekeeping operation by sending material support and a team of doctors, he added.
Slovakia is thus adding its voice to the appeal to all parties in the conflict to immediately adopt measures that will end the violence and the attacks in Lebanon and northern Israel, said the minister.
Kubiš said that Slovakia supports the right of Israel to defend itself against attacks by Hezbollah extremists. At the same time, however, Slovak diplomacy points out the responsibility of Israeli leadership for its moves.
It is not possible to accept the violation of human rights under any circumstances. We want to express our deep concern that civilian areas are being targeted, said Kubiš.
