National Security Bureau chief resigns

AUREL Ugor, the head of the National Security Office (NBÚ), resigned from his position on September 4.

Ugor's resignation came shortly before parliament was to remove him from his post. The ruling Movement for a Democratic Slovakia (HZDS) party had been pushing for Ugor's departure, and recently HZDS leader Vladimír Mečiar publicly asked Ugor to leave.

The HZDS plans to nominate its own candidate to replace Ugor but it has not yet published his name.
