Brocka temporarily in charge of KDH

THE CHRISTIAN Democratic Movement (KDH) made Vice-Chairman Július Brocka its temporary leader on September 11 following Chairman Pavol Hrušovský's car accident over the weekend and subsequent hospitalization.

Hrušovský suffered facial injuries in the September 9 crash while returning from a hunting trip.

Police believe the accident occurred after Hrušovský fell asleep at the wheel. A roadside breathalyzer test showed that Hrušovský had not been drinking.

"I believe my mandate will not last long, because our leader is recovering very quickly from his injuries, and I hope he will also quickly return to his post," Brocka said in response to his nomination.

The KDH also postponed a meeting of the party's top council, previously scheduled for September 30, so Hrušovský could attend. The council is to elect two new members after Vladimír Palko and Daniel Lipšic resigned their posts in response to the KDH's offer to form a government with the socialist Smer party following the June 17 general elections.
