Telefonica must launch GSM within six months

THE LICENSE issued by the Slovak Telecom Bureau (TÚ) to Slovakia's third mobile operator, Telefonica O2 Slovakia, requires the latter to introduce its own GSM mobile network within six months and its UMTS mobile network within 12 months.

The TÚ granted Telefonica O2 Slovakia permission to offer mobile services in addition to Orange and T-Mobile on September 7 after the Spanish firm won a license tender.

By September 21 Telefonica must make a one-off payment of Sk150 million (€3.9 million) to the TÚ for its frequencies.
