Šramko receives central banker of the year award

THE BRITISH magazine Emerging Markets (EM) has named the governor of Slovakia's central bank, Ivan Šramko, as its Central Bank Governor of the Year for Central and Eastern Europe. The award ceremony took place during the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank in Singapore on September 18.

EM's editor-in-chief, Taimur Ahmad, said Šramko won the award for his work in monetary policy, in preparation for the introduction of the euro in Slovakia, as well as in improving the quality of financial market supervision.

"Mr. Šramko's nomination resulted from the wide inquiry that Emerging Markets made among investors, bankers, economic analysts, ratings agencies, and other experts," Ahmad said.
