Friend and enemy of information titles awarded

THE GREATEST enemy of information in Slovakia in 2006 was the Transport Ministry, according to the Infočin (Info-act) 2006 competition organized in cooperation with the Transparency International Slovakia anti-corruption watchdog.

The Transport Ministry was awarded the title by the Infočin commission for its "steadfast refusal" to publish the contract on the sale in 2000 of a majority stake in the Slovak Telecom (T-Com) provider.

The greatest friend of information in 2006 was the Justice Ministry, which under previous ministers Daniel Lipšic and Lucia Žitňanská launched a project to publish court verdicts on the Internet. The new project is expected to increase the transparency of court decisions, as well as to contribute to the predictability of verdicts in similar cases.
