Business alliance evaluates 100 days of new government

THE BUSINESS Alliance of Slovakia (PAS) has evaluated the first 100 days of Prime Minster Robert Fico's government, which took office this summer.

The PAS gave the highest mark to the approval of the draft law on an electronic highway toll. It evaluated the government's steps on a scale ranging from -300 to +300 points, and the electronic highway toll gained 54 points. In contrast, the worst steps by the current government, which the PAS evaluated at -179 points, were its measures to reduce energy prices.

The PAS evaluated only four steps taken by the Fico government positively. Apart from the electronic highway toll, it also views positively the temporary increase in health insurance premiums paid by the state, a measure that won nine points. An increase in the extra contribution to families for their firstborn child merited four points while the measure supporting mortgages for young families gained one point.

Conversely, 14 of 18 steps received negative evaluations, including the halted privatization of the Bratislava airport and energy companies.

The PAS's total average evaluation of the new government was -79 points, the SITA news agency wrote.
