LOCKHEED Martin, the largest arms manufacturer in the world, wants to supply transport planes to Slovakia. Its representatives met with the Slovak parliamentary Defence and Security Committee as part of a US embassy delegation this week, the Hospodárske noviny wrote.
Slovakia would buy the planes through the US government in order to receive the same price as the US Army. Based on a request for a price offer, the US government recommended the C-130J airplane for Slovakia. This type of airplane costs around $60 million (Sk1.8 billion) each.
Slovakia is considering buying two or three airplanes.
A tender will be held prior to the final offer.
Lockheed Martin will probably compete with the Italian company Alenia Aeronautica, which is offering the C27J Spartan transport airplanes to Slovakia.
