HEDVIGA Malinová, the victim of an alleged ethnically motivated attack, faces possible prosecution for misleading the police and justice officials, according to Attorney General Dobroslav Trnka.
Malinová, a 23-year-old ethnic Hungarian, told the police that she had been attacked on August 25 by two young men because she was speaking Hungarian. However, the ensuing police investigation showed that the assault didn't take place as she reported. The case contributed to the escalation of tension in relations between Slovakia and Hungary.
The conclusions of the police investigation were confirmed by the Attorney General's Office on October 18.
"There are various possibilities [to bring closure to the case] and one of them is to put Malinová on trial," Trnka told the press.
