New foreign aid agency set up

ON JANUARY 1, 2007 the Foreign Ministry launched the Slovak Agency for International Development Co-operation. The agency, which will operate as a non-profit organization belonging to the ministry, will serve to institutionalize Slovakia's foreign aid system.

Foreign Minister Ján Kubiš has chosen Slovakia's former ambassador to Ireland, Vladimír Halgaš, to head the new agency.

The agency is to provide foreign aid more effectively by involving NGOs, academics, entrepreneurs, and the state in foreign aid programs and projects.
