Four large investment projects prepared for 2007

THE ECONOMY Ministry has prepared four major investment projects worth a collective Sk20 billion for this year, said Economy Minister Ľubomír Jahnátek, although he declined to provide details, citing the sensitive nature of the transactions.

Last year, the Slovak Investment and Trade Development Agency (SARIO) concluded 65 investment projects with a total value of €607 million. The investors involved will create 11,240 jobs, a number that should increase to 14,547 in the future, ministry data

These investments involve particularly the automotive, electrical engineering, and engineering fields.

In the final weeks of 2006, the government approved Sk9 billion in state aid for 47 investment projects under new investment stimuli rules approved November 29. These companies plan to invest approximately Sk37 billion in Slovakia and create about 12,000 jobs in the coming years.

Among the recipients of state aid were Korean suppliers of the Kia carmaker in Žilina, which had been denied such aid under the previous Dzurinda government, as well as companies such as Sony, CRW Slovakia, Sitem Slovakia, Visteon Slovakia, Unomedical, and Leaf Slovakia.
