Job tenders confirm patronage appointments

JOB tenders for managerial posts at companies that fall under the Transport Ministry’s authority are turning into farces, according to the Pravda daily.

Although the ministry has announced regular job tenders for seats on the boards of state-owned transport firms, these tenders have so far confirmed those people who were nominated to the posts shortly after June 2006 elections by the parties of the ruling coalition.

According to Pravda, the rubber-stamping operation has confirmed political nominees at the Cargo railway company and the National Freeways Administration. Political nominees should also be confirmed at the Slovak post office.

According to the daily, the ministry’s selection committees comprise people who are loyal to Transport Minister Ľubomír Vážny of the ruling Smer party.
