ALL SLOVAK soldiers serving in Iraq have left the country and by February 3 were stationed in Kuwait.
The 95 Slovak soldiers are currently staying at camp Virginia, which has been adapted to serve rotating coalition force contingents. The unit should return to Slovakia by the end of February, according to Slovak Defense Minister František Kašický.
Five Slovak military officers involved in the NATO - NTM-I training mission remain in Iraq, as do an additional six soldiers who will be serving in various staff functions in order to gain additional experience.
The Robert Fico government decided to withdrawal the Slovak contingent from Iraq in October last year.
In total, 716 Slovak soldiers were deployed on seven rotations in the Iraqi Freedom operation, and took part in post-war reconstruction efforts. Army engineers destroyed unexploded ammunition and cleared land mines using hand-held detectors, the Božena mine-clearing system and special mine-clearing tanks.
Four Slovak soldiers died in Iraq.
