Fico advisor heading to Statistics Bureau

ĽUDMILA Benkovičová, PM Robert Fico’s media policy advisor, is to become the new director of Slovakia’s Statistics Bureau (ŠÚ). The office conducts regular voter preference polls and collects important data on the Slovak economy and society.

Benkovičová confirmed that she had received an offer. The government should discuss her nomination in the coming weeks.

She also said she would give up her advisory role if named to the ŠÚ post.

The Statistics Bureau has been subject to political nominations in the past as well. Under the previous government the ŠÚ was run by Peter Mach, a nominee of the then ruling Christian Democrats, the Sme daily wrote.
