Consumer atmosphere gradually improving

THE MOOD of consumers in Slovakia has been improving for more than a year.

According to the latest consumer barometer issued by the Slovak Statistics Bureau, in January 2007 people expressed greater optimism than the month before regarding three out of four measured items: the prospects for household savings, estimated unemployment developments, and the country's economy.

The consumer confidence indicator increased by 0.1 point from December to a new maximum of 6.8 points out of 10.

The consumer atmosphere was 1.1 points better in January than in October of last year, and was 21.6 percent better than in the same month last year.
