Mečiar will again run for leader of HZDS

Vladimír Mečiar, head of the ruling Movement for a Democratic Slovakia, confirmed on April 17 that he is running for re-election at the party congress in June. In response to Vice-Chairman Viliam Veteška's official announcement that he is running for the post of party leader, Mečiar said that he had expected that he would have an opponent in the running since last year.

Mečiar expects only two or three district party organizations will support Veteška.
