Most HZDS district assemblies support Mečiar

HZDS HEAD Vladimír Mečiar has the support of 80 to 90 percent of party district assemblies in the June 9 election for party chair, HZDS spokesperson Zdenka Kramplová said on April 23.

Kramplová said only four districts out of Slovakia's 79 support the candidacy of party vice-chairman Viliam Veteška.

Veteška's candidacy is supported by HZDS district assemblies in Pezinok (Bratislava Region), Púchov (Trenčín Region), Považská Bystrica (Trenčín Region) and Žilina (Žilina Region).

District assemblies in Piešťany (Trnava Region), Trnava (Trnava Region) and Nové Mesto nad Váhom (Trenčín region) are in favour of changing the HZDS party structure and making Mečiar the honorary chairman and Veteška the executive chairman.

Kramplová said that only three of the 79 districts have yet to decide on the matter.
