Survey: Bratislava living costs equal Barcelona

The Pravda daily published on June 19 the results of a survey conducted by Mercer Human Resource Consulting that found the cost of living in Bratislava has become as expensive as in Barcelona.

The survey compared living costs in various world cities, including housing costs, food, clothing and leisure time expenditures. Both aforementioned cities ranked 31st.

In comparison to the results of last year's survey, Bratislava climbed 17 places higher, while Prague remained relatively low, at 49th. The change in living costs in Bratislava can be ascribed to the fast appreciation of the Slovak crown against the US dollar, since each of the cities on the list is compared to the cost of living in New York. Moscow ranked the most expensive in the world.
