Parliament nominates new vice-governor for central bank

VILIAM Ostrožlík came a step closer to becoming a vice-governor of the National Bank of Slovakia on June 28, when parliament confirmed his appointment with 92 votes in favour.

However, President Ivan Gašparovič will have the final say on the issue, the SITA newswire wrote.

Ostrožlík has been an NBS board member since March 1. Between August 2003 and February 2007, he served as chairman and director-general of Privatbanka. He previously worked for Všeobecná Úverová Banka.

The central bank has been operating without a vice-governor for monetary policy since March 27, 2006, when Elena Kohútiková's term expired.
