Ostrožlík appointed NBS vice-governor

Viliam Ostrožlík, a member of the board at the National Bank of Slovakia (NBS), was appointed the central bank’s vice-governor for monetary policy on July 11. During the swearing-in ceremony, President Gašparovič said the position will have an extremely important role in preparing the country for accession into the euro zone, which it plans to enter on January 1, 2009.

Ostrožlík said he is prepared to assist the country in joining the euro zone, which he said he believes will bring Slovakia greater economic growth and a higher standard of living.
