Information awards criticise state forest company

THE GREATEST enemy of information in Slovakia in 2007 is the state forest company of the High Tatras national park, Štátne Lesy TANAP, as named by the Infočin (Info-act) awards.

The jury gave this annual award to the forest company for its director's refusal to provide information about contracts with the companies that logged wood in the Tichá and Kôprová valley national reserves, the SITA newswire wrote.

The awards were granted for the fifth year to mark the International Day of Information. The competition was organised by the Open Society Foundation in cooperation with the World Bank, the Sme daily and others.

The town council in Šaľa was picked as the greatest friend of information in 2007, mainly for their comprehensive website.
