Unemployment down in eastern Slovak region

Job offices in the Košice Region registered 52,890 jobless people in late August - the highest number across Slovakia, but a decrease of almost 7,200 people from August 2006, the Hospodárske Noviny economy daily wrote on October 10.

Margita Orsagová from the Labour, Social Affairs and Family Centre said the regional jobless rate was 13.31 percent, putting Košice Region second after Banská Bystrica Region, which has a jobless rate of 14.12 percent.

The Rožňava District and the Trebišov District top the unemployment chart in the region, with 21.42 percent and 21.33 percent, respectively.
