Jozef Migaš, the current leader of the reformed communist Party of the Democratic Left (SDĽ) will not seek re-election as chairman of the party, the SDĽ announced in Nitra June 24. Current Agriculture Minister Pavol Koncoš has been nominated for the post.

The SDĽ will vote on its leadership in October. Under Migaš, the party's public support has dropped from the 14.5% it achieved in 1998 national elections to current levels below 5%, the minimum required for parties to be represented in parliament.
