Milan Daniel, an 18 year-old ethnic Roma from the west Slovak town of Holíč who was badly beaten by unknown assailants August 10, has recovered sufficiently from his brain injuries to begin breathing on his own in a Bratislava hospital.
Daniel's mother claims that her son, who managed to crawl home before collapsing, told her while still conscious that he had been beaten up by skinheads.
Police are still investigating.
