Return of Mečiar "end of discussion" on joining Nato

Bruce Jackson, the head of the American Council for Nato, said in an interview with the daily paper Sme that Washington "does not believe" the support voiced by former Slovak Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar for joining Nato. Mečiar, whose 1994-1998 government's authoritarian policies kept the country out of the military alliance, had been seen as "not just a barrier but a full stop, end of discussion" when it came to Nato expansion, Jackson added.
