Whirlpool Slovakia with 4.3 billion Sk turnover in 1-3Q99

The Poprad-based plant of Whirlpool Slovakia produced 516,590 washing machines during the first nine months of 1999. Along with other household appliances sold under the trademarks Whirlpool and Ignis in Slovakia, these products gave Whirlpool Slovakia consolidated sales of 4.3 billion Slovak crowns during the first nine months of 1999.

Turnover for the whole of 1998 was 4.2 billion crowns, up 25% from the 3.3 billion crowns it reported in 1997, said Poprad plant director Enrico Biondi.

Whirlpool's exports accounted for more than 90% of its nine-month turnover. The firm placed output worth 3.3 billion crowns on the foreign market, which is more than in the whole year of 1998. Biondi said that while it had taken the company almost six years to produce its first million washing machines, it produced the second million in less than two years.
