Trade deficit on downward spiral

The trade deficit in September hit a record Sk90 billion, or 9.3% of GDP, a figure not seen since 1998. Analysts said reduced exports by auto giant Volkswagen Slovakia, which is preparing to launch production of a new model, were partly to blame.

The end-year trade deficit has been predicted by some experts at as high as Sk110 billion.
