Flamenco Festival

An exhibition of paintings by Viera Čapková will open the 4th Slovak Flamenco Festival, running November 19-24, at 16:00, November 19. The opening will be followed by the seminar Flamenco Through the Centuries by Slovak flamenco guitarist Branislav Krajča (Flaco de Nerja) at 18:30. Both events will be held at the flamenco club La Pasión, Súťažná 18, Bratislava.
Slovak flamenco band Lágrima with Czech guests will perform at 19:00 November 21 at České centrum on Hviezdoslavovo námestie 8. Austrian flamenco musicians will perform at 19:00 November 22 at the Mozart Hall in the Austrian Embassy, Ventúrska 10. The seminar Paco de Lucía - Flamenco King by Slovak guitarists Morenito de Triana and Flaco de Nerja begins at 18:30 and will be followed by a performance at 20:00 at the Spanish Embassy's library on Prepoštská 10.
A Saturday concert during which Spanish food will be served starts at 17:00 at Culture House Nivy, Súťažná 18. The festival will also include dance, guitar and percussion courses. For more information call 0905 294 080. Spanish Embassy tel: 02/5441-5724(6).


US Embassy exhibition

Former US ambassador to Slovakia Carl Spielvogel will open an exhibition by world-renowned glass artist Dale Chihuly at 17:00 November 19. Chihuly, whose works are on display in more than 185 museums world-wide, has a grandfather from an eastern Slovakia's region. The exhibition of 12 works created between 1992 and 2000 will run at Pálffy Palace in the Bratislava Town Gallery, Panská 19 until February 3. Tel: 02/5922-3083.
1001 Europe lecture series in Bratislava
French socio-economist Jean de Kervazdoué will compare European health care systems in the lecture Solidarity Does not Require Welfare, begins at 17:00 November 19 at the Comenius University Medical faculty, Sasinkova 2. Tel: 02/5934-7777.
