Remnants of empire, VSŽ luxury cars to be auctioned off

Twenty luxury limousines owned by eastern Slovak steelmaker VSŽ will go on public auction at Kosice's Cassosport Hall on September 24. The cars, including BMW, Mercedes, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan and Mitsubishi models, will be shown to the public for two days beforehand to stimulate interest.

Bidding will start at prices set according to expert estimates, and will increase in minimum 10,000 crown bids.

VSŽ, which has begun selling off non-essential interests to cut costs, is also trying to sell a Hawker 800XP airplane which it had bought from the Raytheon leasing company.

VSŽ President Gabriel Eichler has also advocated merging 30 of VSŽ's daughter companies under one roof.
