Letter to the Editor: Shocked by violence

Dear Editor,

I would like to express my surprise at yet another outburst of violence in an otherwise wonderful city - the shooting that took place at the Dubliner's bar in Bratislava.

I live here in the UK with my Slovak wife, Maria Mišiková (now Wilson). I believe that her village - Ivanka pri Dunaji - has just celebrated its 750th birthday. I would like to wish all in Ivanka, especially my family, the best of life and happiness.

I would also like to pass on to you my congratulations for producing a Net Paper that is both informative and well produced. My wife and I read every week.

Philip Wilson,
Hampshire, UK

Over the weekend, several centimetres of snow, the first bigger cover of the season, fell in the High Tatras.

Winter offers best conditions.

Píšem or pišám?

"Do ľava," (to the left) I yelled, "Nie, do prava" (no, to the right), I gasped. "Dolšie," I screamed. "Nie, nie, horšie..." My Slovak girlfriend collapsed in laughter. Was it something I said?
