Unemployment rises

THE DECEMBER unemployment rate rose by 0.8 per cent and hiked the total 2001 figure to 19.8 per cent, the National Labour Office revealed on January 4, based on its preliminary figures.

The number of unemployed in December stood at 534, 333 up by 21,000 month-on-month and 27,600 year-on-year. The further growth of unemployed by 35,000 is expected in January.
