Bonds threaten EU chapter

STATE assistance granted for bonds of Sk2.9 billion issued by the electricity utility SE may hinder Slovakia's ability to close the EU chapter on economic competition this year.

The chairman of the State Assistance Office, Miroslav Hladík, has said that if the assistance requested by the Finance Ministry is approved, Slovakia would probably have to give up hopes of closing the chapter in 2002.
