Whirlpool Slovakia Plans to Boost Washing Machines Production

Whirlpool Slovakia plans to boost its production of washing machines by 34 percent to 700,000 units in total in 1999. The daily production is projected at 3,000 washing machines.

This will continue the companies substantial 1998 growth rate. During this year the company produced 520,000 washing machines what accounts for a 49 percent increase from the year before, said Whirlpool director Errico Biondi.

Whirlpool Slovakia produces three types of washing machines and it plans to introduce the fourth one this year. An 85 percent share of the company's production is destined for export into such countries as Brazil, Argentina, China and South Africa.

Whirlpool, US multinational company, started making business in Slovakia in 1992. The company acquired Tatramat Slovakia in 1996.
