Facing fat facts

ALMOST half the Slovak population are overweight, according to one daily paper.

Two million Slovaks are either overweight or obese despite the fact that people are eating less and less high-fat foods than before, claims the daily Národná obroda.

The paper also claims it is one of the most serious problems in society and is evidence of massive psychological stress on a number of women.

One woman said: "An alcoholic starts drinking when he has problems. A drug addict wants drugs so he can forget his torment. And there are people who compensate their stresses and problems with food."
