Poprad to bid for 2014 winter Olympics

HAVING failed to be chosen as organiser of the 2002 Winter Olympics, the northern Slovak town of Poprad has again decided to run as candidate for the 2014 winter games.

"If it becomes a member of the European Union, I believe Slovakia has a big chance to be picked as organiser," said Poprad mayor Štefan Kubík.
