Solana guarantees positive NATO response

NATO Secretary General Javier Solana guaranteed Slovakia on November 27 that if the government continues in its reforms, it will bring about a very positive response from NATO during the upcoming months. Solana also emphasized that he was meeting Slovak Premier Mikuláš Dzurinda for the second time in a month.

At a press conference with Solana in Brussels, Dzurinda said there are many practical reasons why Slovakia should be a NATO member. However, the Slovak Premier is aware that it is not realistic to expect an invitation too soon. He stressed that Slovakia will soon have a chance to persuade the NATO community of its democratic development.
