Peace Corps renewal

Stará Turá was the location of a Peace Corps Volunteers ceremony held on on August 25, attended by US Ambassador Ralph Johnson and his wife Anne. Forty five new volunteers arrived in Slovakia to spend two years serving the US and Slovakia, their host country. The volunteers are staying with Slovak families to familiarise themselves with the language and the Slovak lifestyle, all of which will help them in forming new relationships and taking on new challenges in Slovakia. They will be working throughout Slovakia in either the environmental field (for example, with Sosna in Košice or the Foundation for a Healthy City in Banská Bystrica) or the social field (the "Smile as a Gift" foundation for children, or the Jekhetan Romany foundation). In addition, there are volunteers working at Bratislava's Comenius University as English-language assistants in the Language center.

Paper theatre rexhibition

If you happen to find yourself in Topoľčianky Chateau, you must visit one of the most attractive exhibitions ever held at the castle - The Vienna Paper Theatres. Mini theatres made from paper are shown as coloured letters owned by middle class families of the 19th century.
