Foreign trade gap was 5.5bn Sk in January

Slovakia's foreign trade deficit was 5.512 billion crowns in January 1998, a slight improvement over January 1997, when the gap was 1.4 billion wider at 6.9 billion crowns, the ŠÚSR said on February 27. The improvement was not due to improved exports (an actual 3.04bn Sk decline over January 1997), but mostly to falling imports (a decline of 4.4bn Sk). The full 1997 trade deficit totalled 49.48 billion crowns.
