Fico gives anti-Mečiar guarantees

Robert Fico, leader of the non-parliamentary Smer party, said on his return from the US that he had given American officials guarantees that Smer would not endanger pro-democratic reform in Slovakia, and that it would not work with Vladimír Mečiar after September 2002 elections.
