THE DAILY paper Pravda has reported that the opposition HZDS party will put only 12 of its current 43 members of parliament on a list of candidates for national elections in September, and will prefer well-known show business and media faces among its top 10 candidates. The paper, which did not name the source of its information, said 50 of the 150 HZDS candidates are to be women, and none of them - save chairman Vladimír Mečiar and former parliamentary speaker Ivan Gašparovič - is to be 60 or older. The party officially approves its election slate at a congress on July 6.
