Prosecutor demoted over harassment

THE PROSECUTOR General has been demoted over allegations made in a newspaper that he was being sued for sexual harassment.

Attorney General Milan Hanzel announced March 27 that Michal Barila had been demoted to the post of regular prosecutor in the Bratislava 1 district.

An article in the daily Nový Čas had claimed that Barila was being sued for sexual harassment by an American woman.

Barila, who had been involved in a number of high-profile investigations, said he was shocked at the decision.

"I thought he [Hanzel] would defend me," he said.
